[State and prospects of using domestic duck populations]

English. To improve the poultry productivity in Ukraine, it is believed important to study, improve and extend the genetic resources of the domestic poultry farming. Productive and reproductive qualities of ducks of Ukrainian populations in conditions of a specialized farm are analysed. The available genetic resources are found out to have the satisfactory level of the productivity and can serve an initial material in a breed-raising process. Yet the long absence of targeted breeding work with the populations of Ukrainian ducks caused lowering their egg-laying, but selection methods used in this subsector stabilized and even have improved live weight of ducks at the age of 7 weeks while good indices of stock preservation. In the further works the available genetic resources of domestic ducks are to be used. It is stated that forming a new breed of ducks on the basis of a synthetic population with an effect of multiple heterosis according to preferably dominant type of inheritance of polygenic characters of productivity could be one of the lines of work with an initial material.
