Effect of four soil-born fungi on mortality of greenhouse carnation separately or in combination

Two carnation cultivars, grown in pots under greenhouse conditions were inoculated with Fusarium oxysporum f. dianthi (F), Rhizoctonia solani (R), Pythium vexans (P) and Phytophthora cryptogea (Ph). Different fungi were introduced to the soil separately, and in combination of two, three and all four. The effect of the pathogens on plants varied with the species used for inoculation, either separately or in combination, as well as the cultivar tested. The shortest time for mortality was observed on carnation cv. Scania infected with all four pathogens (F, R, P, Ph), suggesting synergism, while one combination (F, Ph) caused the most significant mortality of plants cv. Red Corso. The obtained differences were statistically estimated and the variants were separated in groups by the cluster analysis
