Characteristics of the dessert grapevine varieties recommended for growing in our country

Owing to its excellent soil and climatic conditions from the antiquity to present, Bulgaria has established itself as a suitable region for production of dessert grapes. During thirty years, the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven conducted a comparative study of agro-biological and technological qualities of the rich gene pool of introduced and Bulgarian bred dessert (seed and seedless) grapevine varieties. From the studied approximate number of 800 varieties, 22 dessert (seed and seedless) grapevine varieties are presented that will take a major place in our dessert grape production. The offered dessert grapevine varieties can be grown in almost all viticultural regions of the country and their grapes have beautiful appearance, excellent organoleptic and transportable qualities. The grapevines of these recommended varieties are distinguished for good fertility and high yielding ability.
