Study of garden peas varieties originated from Germany and possibilities for their using as an initial breeding material

Investigations were performed during the period 2003Ѓ‚2005 in the Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute, Plovdiv. German garden pea varieties Dinga, Fabio, Fabundo, Lincoln, Costa, Undine and Apexina were studied. The variety Vyatovo was used as a standard. The purpose of the investigation was varieties suitable for use as donors of essential characters for breeding process in Bulgaria to be studed. According to the obtained experimental data German varieties could be classified to the mid-early variety group. The varieties Undine and Fabundo have the best combination of the studied characters for Bulgarian conditions. Variety Fabio set by 3 pods per a fruit carrier and it could be included in the hybridization for increase of fruit number per a fertile node.
