Characteristics of some traits of the own productivity during puberty and the correlations among them in Bulgarian Danube pigs
2007
Apostolov, A. | Vladimirov, A.
The experiment was carried out with 45 female Danube White pigs. The age for puberty, backfat thickness, and meat percentage in the carcass as well as the dependences between them during puberty were determined. The animals in heat were recognized by the boars of the same age – twice a day (morning and evening). For all female pigs which showed the reflex of immobility the traits of their own productivity were measured with the apparatus Piglog 105. It was found that the pigs of the Danube White breed reached puberty at 184 days of age. The results showed that the growth intensity to puberty was related positively to the backfat (rp = 0.450) and negatively to the thickness of Musculus Longisimus Dorsi (MLD) and the percentage of meat in the carcass (rp = -0.205 and rp = - 0.459).
