[Determination of the total number of species in the local fauna in Neman-Predpolesye geobotanical zone by the example of geometrid moths (Lepidoptera, Geometridae)]

Research results of the development of new approach to calculation of the supposed number of species in the local fauna and determination of the prospective level of geometrid moths (Lepidoptera, Geometridae) species diversity on the territory of Neman-Predpolesye geobotanical zone were presented. The concept of fauna structure was proposed. By the example of 22 families it was shown that Lepidoptera species composition on the contiguous territories had the similar proportions between the taxons (coefficient of taxons correlation which was rather stable for the studied region). Therefore having the opportunity to operate with large number of taxons and knowing their correlation on the well-known territory it was possible to calculate the supposed number of species of one of them on the similar territory in case the species composition of the studied taxon of that territory had been studied rather poorly. The size of the compared territories had not importance. With the help of the proposed correlation the upper level of species composition of geometrid moths on the territory of Belarus (330 species) was calculated. Altogether 229 species of geometrids were found on the territory of Neman-Predpolesye geobotanical zone. It made up 83% from the theoretically expected number of geometrid species
