The wide spreading of (Phalaris sp.) reed canary grass in the republic suppresses because of deficiency of seeds of this culture. In many respects deficiency of seeds is connected with biological features of reed canary grass. Maturing of seeds occurs very quickly, terms of harvesting - minimal and there is great danger of seed shattering. Besides the most popular varieties of reed canary grass are zoned several decades ago and now their primary seed - growing is complicated. In this connection studying of seed efficiency of the new standard varieties of reed canary grass is the necessary condition promoting the wider spreading of the culture in the republic. Being typical hygromesophyte, reed canary grass at the same time is a drought-resistant plant as it is capable to develop powerful root system which uses a moisture from deep horizons of ground. Reed canary grass possesses advantages which do it the perspective feed culture. On the protein content in green mass it suppressed timothy (Phleum Pratense L.), (Dactylis glomerata L.), fescue (Festuca Pratense L.) and does not concede Bromus Inermis L. and Poa Pratensis, has the sugar minimum providing normal process of silage making and high quality of silage. It is well eaten by all kinds of domestic animals. Seed efficiency of studied standard varieties of reed canary grass depends on their biological features and conditions of growth of the culture. The maximal seed productivity reed canary grass forms in first two years of its usage. For seed - growing of the culture in conditions of the republic the most perspective are early maturing standard varieties, less perspective – late – maturing ones. Among all the studied standard varieties the following standard varieties are diffeed by their greatest seed efficiency: N17 Kareliya, N3 Karachaevo-Cherkessiya and N22 Komi. Standard variety N22 Komi is the most resistance to the seed shattering
