Effects of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L.)

The objective of this experiment were to study the effects of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of sweet potatoes. The experiment was conducted from July until October 2001, at the experimental field of Agricultural Development High School (SPP) Samarinda, in Samarinda district. The experiment were arranged in randomized block design, with three replications. The organic fertilizer treatments were k=0 (not fertilizer), k=1 (10 t/ha chicken manure) dan k = 2 (10 t/ha compost). Plot size 360 x 175 cm and plant spacing was 100 x 25 cm. The organic fertilizer was applied one week after planting. The organic fertilizer showed significant effect on the increase of stem length at 4, 8 and 12 weeks after planting. The chicken manure gave the highest yield of 28.906 t/ha.
