Changes in fruit quality of pummelo experiencing storage and remaining on the tree

The aim of this experiment was to study the quality of Citrus grandis 'Nambangan' fruit during storage with different harvest time as compared with the fruit that remained on the tree. The treatments consisted of 5 different harvest times, i.e. 18, 20, 22, 24, and 26 weeks after anthesis (WAH). Fruit harvested with different harvest times were subjected to different storage periods i.e. 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks after harvest (WAB). The result showed that harvest time between 18 WAB to 26 WAB were not significantly different for the fruit physical quality, such as fruit weight, diameter, peel thickness, and softness. Delayed harvest time and extension of storage at 20 degree C increased the total soluble solids (TSS) and decreased acid and vitamin C contents in pummelo fruit. However, the increase of TSS content in earlier harvested fruit followed by storage was not higher when compared to that of fruit remaining on the tree. The decrease of acid and vitamin C contents of the fruit stored at 20 deg. C was slower than those remaining on the tree.
