This study was conducted to test the efficacy of seed extracts of 10 yam bean accessions on mortality and development of the cabbage head caterpillar, Crocidoloma pavonana (F.). Second-instar C. pavonana larvae were fed with test extracts treated or untreated broccoli leaves for 48 hours, then were fed with untreated every 24 hours until the fourth-instar stage. The number of mortality was recorded daily. The experiment used a completely randomized design with three replications, using ten accessions. Result showed that the toxicity of seed extracts of yam bean was relatively high to C. pavonana with maximum mortality level of 3-9 days after treatment. In addition to lethal effect (14.90 percent - 84.29 percent mortality), treatment with 0.1 percent seed extracts of the ten accessions also prolonged the developmental time of the surviving larvae from the second to fourth instar by 0.77-3.04 days as compared with the checks. Among the ten accessions evaluated, PE028 accessions was the most active against larvae C. pavonana, with larval mortality of 84.29 percent.
