Utilization of rice bran and shrimp waste fermented with Aspergillus niger as layer quail feed supplement

The aim of this research was to evaluate the results of a fermented mixture of rice bran and shrimp waste fed to layer quail using Aspergilius niger (CDLUFn). The method employed was in-vivo trials in a completely randomized design of feed treatment. There were 5 treatments, namely supplements of 0 percent, 5 percent, 10 percent, 15 percent, and 20 percent, respectively with 4 replications. The feed was arranged for iso-energy and iso calory, feed and water were administered ad lib. The variables were egg quality and egg laying levels. The results showed that there were no significant differences between the control treatment (0 percent) and feed supplemented with the fermented mixture. The quail in the early stages of their egg laying period, had difficulty in getting used to the supplements and this caused a drop both in feed conversion and egg laying. However, near their normal peak egg production period, there were no significant differences in results between the control and supplemented treatments, indeed, the 10 percent and 20 percent CDLUFn supplement treatments (R2 and R4) gave the best results. Regarding egg quality, the eggs from CDLUFn treated feed had higher egg yolk, albumen and egg shell ratings, yet egg weights were nearly the same.
