Effects of a hypophysis extract administration method on the esterus ovary responses in anesterus post partum cows

This research was conducted to evaluate different hypophysis extract (HE) administration method on ovary and esterus response. The study was done at the KPSP, Nongkojajar, Pasuruan Regency, in the form of field trials. Twenty four dairy cows - in post partum anesterus (64-104 days) in lactation periods between 1 and 9 were selected from farmers and divided into 4 equal groups. In Group I, the cows were injected with HE 6 times at intervals of 12 hours (5.0, 5.0, 4.125, 4.125, 3.375 and 3.375 ml respectively). Group II were injected 3 times at intervals of 24 hours, (10 ml, 8.725 ml and 6.75 ml respectively). Group III was injected once with 25 ml of HE, and Group IV was the control with no HE treatment. Twenty four hours after their treatments the cows were closely observed for signs of esterus, and those that came into esterus were then inseminated normally. Ovarian response was observed through rectal palpitations at the follicles, CL totals were determined 3 days after artificial insemination. The results showed a significant difference in esterus response between cows treated with hypophysis extract and those untreated cows in the control group. A hundred percent of Group II, cows (injected at 24 hour intervals) came into esterus, whereas for Groups I and III it was 67.7 percent and only 50 percent for the control group. However, for cows in esterus there were no significant variations either in ovulation rates between treatments or in mature tertiary follicles totals, which were 1 each respectively. In conclusion, hypophysis treatments of 3 injections at 24 hour intervals gives the best response in inducing esterus and in ovary response.
