Histology of the taste buds of the gustatory papillae in pigs

The precise histological location of the taste buds of the fungiform, foliate and vallate papillae was conducted in tongues of the mixedbreeds pigs(10). Two types of taste buds in the foliate papillae had oval shaped taste buds located deeper in the crypt, whereas, the elliptical shaped taste buds lay at mid level of the crypt. The vallate papillae moat had large number of globular shaped taste buds at its baseand spindle shaped few taste buds at mid level of papillary wall of the papilla.
