2005
Nath, H.C. | Baruah, K.K. | Baruah, A.
Ten adult pluriparous nonlactating pregnant indigenous cows of 4-5 years of age were used in the present study. Blood samples were collected at prepartum, partum and postpartum stages and used for estimation of triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) concentration. The serum triiodothyronine concentrations showed decreasing trend towards approaching parturition. Following parturition the serum triiodothyronine concentration increased significantly (P0.05) and reached peak value on 30th day postpartum. Like triiodothyronine, serum thyroxine concentration also showed decreasing trend towards approaching parturition and increased significantly (P0.05) following parturition.
