The effect of age castration on quantity and quality of Meat Of Dashteyari cattle

In this experiment's the effects of castration were evaluated for quantity and quality of meat production in Dashteyari calves. Thirty two calves allocated in four (eight calves in each group) groups including castrated at 6, 9 and 12 month age, and control group (uncastricated). The all of calves kept in similar management before and during of 6 month fattening period. Finally, twelve calves( three in each groups) slaughtered for carcass analysis. The results of fattening and carcass characteristics evaluated by SAS program in completely randomized design (CRD). Also, covariate analysis applaied for correction of initial weight of fattening. The average daily gain were 657, 547.9, 577/6 and 711.1gr in first, second, third and fourth groups respectively, and there were significan differences among groups (p0.01). The carcass percentage, decrease of cold carcass related to hot carcass, beef, bone and fat percentage were 56.3, 4.6, 67.7. 13.6 and 16.7 percent in first 53.9, 4.2, 66.6.14.4 and 17.9 percent in second, 52.8,67.2.13.3 and 17.6 percent in third and 56.6, 4, 73.9, 11.7 and 12.8 percent in fourth group respectively. For beef, bone and fat percentage here were significan differences among groups (p0.01). The data showed, castration effected on carcass weight and meat quality. The results showed, the percentage of nick and shoulder were affected by castration, The economic evaluation at the fattening period and carcass yield showed the higher benefit (1078684 Rial/head) obtained in the treatment 4 (control group), instead treatment 2 (castration at 9 month age) had lowest income (206977 Rial/head for). The results show the castration had no benefit of Dashteyari steers.
