Ecological Regions of Iran: Vegetation Types of Semirom Area

Vegetation types of Semirom, a district in Semirom, Isfahan, Fars, Chahar Mahal and Kohgylooyeh provinces, is mapped and documented as a result of a comprehensive national project titled &ldquoRecognition of Iranian ecological zones&rdquo. Semirom area is 1579200 hectare, located on 51°-52° 30َ E and 31°-32° N. The most populated areas of the district&rsquos are Semirom, Boldagy, Gandoman, Borojen and Izadkhast. On the basis of physiognomy and floristic status of the vegetation, rangelands and Forests of the district are segmented into range vegetation types. Results of the study show that the area of Semirom&rsquos rangelands and Forest is 1101293 hectares equal to 69.74% and Forest is 10991 hectares equal to 0.7% of the district&rsquos total area. Rangelands and Forest of the district are classified as 54 range vegetation types. Having one dominant species in common, vegetation types were put in so called &ldquoPlant group&rdquoto ease realization of the situation as follows: -Astragalus spp. has 16 vegetation types covering 26% of the total vegetation types. -Artemisia sieberi has 7 vegetation types covering 2.91% of the total vegetation types. -Artemisia aucheri has 4 vegetation types covering 10.62% of the total vegetation types. -Amygdalus sp. has 3 vegetation types covering 0.053% of the total vegetation types. Nearly 274401 hectares equal to 17.38% of total area is allocated to crops of rainfed, irrigated and also orchards. About 191471 hectares equal to 12.12% of total area is allocated to Rock.
