English. [Gilts have a key role in performance of sow herd. Their yield is strongly affected by their conditions at first mating, specially for what concerns body weight and number of previous oestri. For the best yields it is necessary the availability of specific premises, the Gilt Development Unit. Besides a specifically addressed space, it is necessary to adopt a protocol providing for acclimation, isolation and effective discovery of oestrus in order to obtain more than 90% of cyclic gilts along 4-6 weeks of puberty stimulation, leading gilts to 135 kg (330 lbs) weight or more at first mating, obtaining an early and recognizable oestrus which allows the control of gilt group, thanks to the control of the first oestrus, not to be utilized. This allows a more efficient management of gilts based on foreseen mating week and the exclusion from reproduction of subjects characterized by a low reproductive potential. Herds complying with these targets can reach good productions, till 50 piglets per sow during life span.]

Il loro rendimento è fortemente influenzato dalle loro condizioni al momento del primo accoppiamento, in special modo per quanto riguarda il peso corporeo e il numero degli estri precedenti. Per i rendimenti migliori è necessario disporre di un posto specifico denominato Unità di Sviluppo delle Scrofette (GDU). Oltre a uno specifico spazio dedicato, è necessario utilizzare un protocollo che preveda l'acclimatazione e l'isolamento e l'effettivo rilevamento dell'estro, al fine di ottenere più del 90% di scrofette ciclanti nell'arco di 4-6 settimane di stimolazione della pubertà, arrivando a portare le scrofette al peso di 135 kg (330 lb) o più al momento del primo accoppiamento, ottenendo un estro precoce e individuabile che permetta il controllo del gruppo delle scrofette, grazie al controllo del primo estro da non utilizzare. Questo permette di gestire in modo più efficiente le scrofette sulla base della prevista settimana di accoppiamento e di escludere dalla riproduzione i soggetti con basso potenziale riproduttivo. Le mandrie che si attengono a questi obiettivi avranno buone produzioni, fino a 50 suinetti per scrofa lungo l'arco della sua vita
