English. Brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a species belonging to Carnivora order, but it presents omnivorous food habits. Its food habits in nature have been extensively studied, but in literature very few information is available on digestive system anatomy. Macro- and microscopic anatomy of brown bear has been investigated in this study, also in relation of possible functional aspects. The high muscular development of pyloric portion has been observed and this seems to be correlated to the gastric pump role of this structure and also to the insectivorous habit of this species. The attachment strength of the stomach to the liver and diaphragm has been observed. This anatomical feature could be the effect of the high weight of replete stomach and its traction exerted during bipedal or sitting posture. The gastric mucosa surveying pointed out a fundic mucosa extension similar to the one of carnivorous species typically faunivores, underlining the gastric acidity role in the hemicellulose digestion
Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. [L'orso bruno (Ursus arctos) è una specie appartenente all'ordine Carnivora, ma presenta una capacità di adattamento alimentare di tipo onnivoro. Le sue abitudini alimentari in natura sono state studiate ampiamente, ma in letteratura sono disponibili pochissime informazioni sull'anatomia dell'apparato digerente. In questo lavoro sono state studiate la macroanatomia e l'anatomia microscopica del'orso bruno, alla luce dei possibili risvolti funzionali. E' stato osservato un elevato sviluppo muscolare della porzione pilorica e questo sembra correlato al ruolo di pompa gastrica di questa struttura e pure all'abitudine insettivora di questa specie. E' stata osservata una solida fissità dello stomaco al fegato e al diaframma. Questa caratteristica anatomica potrebbe essere la risultante del peso elevato dello stomaco in fase di massima deplezione e dello stimolo meccanico esercitato dalla postura bipedale, eretta o seduta. L'esame della mucosa gastrica ha evidenziato un'estensione della mucosa fundica pari a quella delle specie carnivore tipicamente faunivore, sottolineando il ruolo dell'acidità gastrica nella digestione dell'emicellulosa.]
