Pulmonar expression of the endothelian system after endotoxin-shock in pigs

English. Circulating plasma levels of endothelin (ET-1) are elevated in a porcine model of endotoxic shock. Among the putative actions of ET-1 there is the derangement of respiratory mechanics. We therefore measured the lung mRNA expression pattern of the key components of the ET system [ET-1, ET-converting enzyme (ECE), ETA and ETB receptors] by Quantitative RT-PCR. Four hours of continuous LPS infusion (40 g/kg/hour) caused an increase in ET-1 mRNA (more than 4 fold relative expression, P0.01). ECE, ETA and ETB mRNA expression showed a not statistically significant decrease in LPS group as compared to saline group.
