Rabbit meat production: weaning at 28 days vs weaning at 63 days. 1: In vivo parameters

English. The influence of weaning age on rabbit meat production was investigated on a total of 192 crossbred rabbits (New Zealand White x Californian). Individually conducted live weight controls were weekly recorded from birth to slaughter. At 28 days, 96 subjects (W 28 d) were weaned and the following parameters were weekly recorded: live weight; daily solid feed intake; daily weight gain. A late weaning was performed at 63 days on the remaining 96 experimental rabbits (W 63 d) and all rabbits were slaughtered at 83 days. Live weight at 83 days and daily weight gain from 64 to 83 days of W 28 d vs W 63 d (2,167 vs 1,837 g; 28.4 vs 18.0 g) showed highly significant differences (P0.01). W 28 d rabbits also performed a greater daily feed intake (113.0 g vs 88.9 g; P0.05) and a better feed conversion index (3.979 vs 4.439; P0.05). Show more [+] Less [-]Italian. [Su 192 conigli ibridi (Bianca di Nuova Zelanda x Californiana) è stato studiato l'effetto dell'età di svezzamento sulle prestazioni produttive del coniglio da carne. Sono stati registrati i pesi vivi individuali dalla nascita alla macellazione, con cadenza settimanale. A 28 giorni di età 96 soggetti (W 28 d) sono stati svezzati e ogni settimana sono stati rilevati i seguenti parametri: peso vivo; ingestione giornaliera di alimento; incremento giornaliero del peso. Sui rimanenti 96 capi oggetto della sperimentazione è stato effettuato uno svezzamento tardivo (W 63 d) e tutti i conigli sono stati macellati a 83 giorni. Il peso vivo a 83 giorni e l'incremento giornaliero di peso da 64 a 83 giorni di W 28 d vs W 63 d (2.167 g vs 1.837 g; 28,4 g vs 18,0 g) hanno evidenziato differenze altamente significative (P0,01). I conigli W 28 d, inoltre, hanno fatto registrare una maggiore ingestione giornaliera di alimento (113,0 g vs 88,9 g; P0,05) e un migliore indice di conversione alimentare (3,979 vs 4,439; P0,05).
