Evaluation of nematicides and neem cake for managing root-knot nematodes in pointed gourd, Trichosanthes dioica [India]

Experiments were conducted, during two growing seasons, to control the root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica, in pointed gourd (Trichosanthes dioica Rb.), using carbosulfan, carbofuran, monocrotophos and neem cake applied in various ways. Dipping vines in carbosulfan 25 EC at 500 ppm for 6 hours + carbofuran 3G at 2.5 g/pit 45 days after planting was the best treatment as it produced the highest yield of 20,216 kg/ha and the greatest reduction of root-knot nematode gall index in both growing seasons. All other treatments increased yield and reduced nematode population density in the 2002-2003 season, but not in the 2003-2004 season. [Nel corso di due stagioni di crescita sono stati condotti esperimenti per il controllo dei nematodi galligeni delle radici, Meloidogyne incognita e M. javanica, in Trichosanthes dioica Rb., utilizzando carbosulfan, carbofuran, monocrotofos e panello di neem somministrati in vari modi. L'immersione delle piantine in carbosulfan 25 EC a 500 ppm per 6 ore + il trattamento con carbofuran 3G a 2,5 g/buca 45 giorni dopo la messa a dimora è risultato il trattamento migliore, dato che ha determinato la produzione più elevata, pari a 20.216 kg/ha e la maggior riduzione dell'indice delle galle dei nematodi in ambedue i cicli di coltivazione. Tutti gli altri trattamenti hanno aumentato la resa produttiva e hanno ridotto la densità delle popolazioni di nematodi nel 2002-2003, ma non nel 2003-2004. Il maggior incremento di resa si è avuto con il trattamento indicato sopra, ma il rapporto più alto fra aumento di resa e costo è stato ottenuto immergendo le piantine in monocrotofos.]
