The effect of air flow rate and forward speed on spray deposition from a vineyard sprayer

Two air flow rates (4.7 cube m/s and 7.1 cube m/s) and two forward speed treatments (6 km/h and 9 km/h approx.) were compared at the beginning of flowering and the berry touch stages in a Casarsa-trained vineyard by using a randomised-block design with four replicates. The sprayer was an Ecologic 2000 T800 model fitted with an axial-flow fan and six Albuz ATR nozzles on each side, placed at the lateral outlets of a fishtail air conveyor. Analysis of variance of the mean foliar deposits showed no significant effects owing to either the air flow rate and the travel speed or their interaction at both growth stages. However, at beginning of flowering, the lower air flow rate significantly increased mean deposition in the inside of the canopy. At full foliage (berry touch) stage, the higher travel speed slightly increased deposits on the canopy side nearest the sprayer, while decreased them on the opposite side. Further research is being planned in order to optimise the air flow rate and the travel speed in vineyards with narrower row distances

[Sono stati confrontati trattamenti con due portate di aria (4,7 m cubi/s e 7,1 m cubi/s) e due velocità di avanzamento (6 km/h e 9 km/h approssimativamente) agli stadi di inizio della fioritura e chiusura del grappolo in un vigneto allevato a Casarsa, adottando uno schema a blocchi randomizzati con quattro replicati. L'atomizzatore era un modello Ecologic 2000 T800 dotato di un ventilatore assiale e di 6 ugelli Albuz ATR su ogni lato, situati alle uscite laterali di un convogliatore d'aria a coda di pesce. L'analisi della varianza dei depositi fogliari medi non ha evidenziato effetti significativi sia dovuti al livello di portata dell'aria, sia causati dalla velocità di spostamento o interazioni significative ad ambedue gli stadi di crescita. Tuttavia, all'inizio della fioritura, la portata inferiore d'aria determinava un aumento significativo della deposizione media all'interno della vegetazione. Allo stadio di sviluppo completo delle foglie (chiusura del grappolo), la velocità di avanzamento più alta ha incrementato leggermente i depositi sul lato della chioma più vicino all'atomizzatore, mentre ne ha determinato la diminuzione sul lato opposto. E' in corso di impostazione un'ulteriore ricerca allo scopo di ottimizzare il livello di portata dell'aria e la velocità di avanzamento in vigneti con distanze inferiori fra i filari.]
