The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) agro-ecotypes from Cuneo province. Preliminary results of a multidisciplinary inquiry [Piedmont]

English. The on-farm survival of several Italian agro-ecotypes has been observed in all Italian regions though the number of ecotypes differs from region to region. Moreover, each region retains an own pool of ecotypes. The Cuneo province, Piedmont region, has a very long lasting tradition of common bean cultivation. The present study was carried out to evaluate and characterise the following ecotypes collected in Cuneo province: Billò, Bianco di Bagnasco and Maumese and Villata, this latter from Vercelli province. On the basis of phaseolin pattern , all the studied ecotypes were assigned to the Andean gene pool. Morphological and genetic evidences showed the high similarity between Billò and Calonega. This latter is, together with Spagnol, Spagnolet and Canalino, generically know as the Lamon common beans (Veneto region). These results support the historical information about the origin of Billò that is traditionally named Fagiolo Lamon di Cuneo by local farmers. Finally, the comparison of seed quality traits relative to Billò with those of Bingo and Stregonta, two cultivars widely cultivated in the Cuneo province, showed the good seed quality of the local ecotype

La persistenza on-farm di numerosi agro-ecotipi italiani di fagiolo interessa in misura diversa tutte le regioni italiane, ciascuna delle quali detiene un proprio gruppo di ecotipi. In Piemonte, la provincia di Cuneo ha un posto di rilievo, potendo vantare una lunga tradizione nella coltivazione del fagiolo. In questo studio sono stati caratterizzati e valutati gli ecotipi cuneesi Billò, Bianco di Bagnasco e Maumese e il Villata, coltivato in provincia di Vercelli. Indagini approfondite sono state condotte sul Billò essendo l'ecotipo più diffuso. In base al profilo delle faseoline, tutti gli ecotipi studiati sono stati attribuiti al pool genico Andino. I dati morfologici e genetici raccolti hanno mostrato una elevata similarità con il Calonega, uno dei fagioli di Lamon (Veneto), a conferma di quanto sostenuto dagli agricoltori circa l'origine del Billò. Il confronto del Billò con le cultivar Bingo e Stregonta, molto diffuse nel Cuneese, ha evidenziato le buone caratteristiche nutrizionali di questo ecotipo locale
