English. 19,563 cattle heads were regularly slaughtered in an abattoir of Piedmont region and heart was examined. Samples with macroscopic alterations were collected and fixed in 10% buffered formalin for histological evaluation. The pathology of the bovine heart is quite various and can offer many hints for comparative studies with other species and with human pathology. The histological observations are an important support to postmortem examination, not less important than macroscopic inspection

I campioni che presentavano alterazioni macroscopiche significative o di dubbia interpretazione sono stati prelevati e fissati in formalina per la valutazione istologica. Complessivamente è stato possibile confermare quanto la patologia cardiaca del bovino sia piuttosto varia, con alcune lesioni tipiche della specie. Sono inoltre presenti patologie che possono aprire degli spunti di studio comparativo con le altre specie animali e con l'uomo. L'esame istologico, in particolare, risulta offrire un grande ausilio diagnostico, di non secondaria importanza rispetto all'esame macroscopico
