Quality evaluation of Christmas-Erica using image analysis
2007
Kato, S.(Yamanashi-ken. Agricultural Technology Center, Kai (Japan)) | Togawa, T.
The quality of Christmas-Erica, which were trained to a Christmas-tree style on Erica formosa and developed at our center were evaluated using image analysis. An objective index for quality evaluation was developed by measuring the area of flowers. After having converted the RGB color image into an 8 bit gray scale image of each color origin, the flowering index value was calculated by measuring the project area of a tree shaped outline and the area of flowers which flowered from the gray levels using ImageJ, a public domain software. The result of having compared the flowering index measured by image analysis and evaluation by the naked eye, showed a high correlation (coefficient of determination was rsup(2)=0.9415). Reliable objectivity from an image analysis was proved by these results.
