Cultivation technique to improve the quality of broad bean [Vicia faba]
2006
Tsujioka, T.(Fukui-ken. Horticultural Experiment Station, Mihama (Japan))
More than 3 ovules were observed in 70 to 80% of ovaries in broad bean cropping of Fukui prefecture. While, the suitable temperature for the growth of broad bean was considered to be lower than 20 deg C. Broad bean absorbed 2.0 to 2.3 kg of nitrogen, 0.6 to 1.2 kg of phosphoric acid and 2.0 to 3.2 kg of potassium respectively per 100square m. Broad bean needed 3kg of nitrogen per 100square m in the cropping of Fnkui prefecture in the case that the fertilization efficiency was 70%. Lime nitrogen was effective for the cropping. Broad bean grew well at 35% of water content in soil. Green multi was more effective for the yield of broad bean than black multi. Picking pods improved the quality and yield of broad bean. Leaving 4 to 5 pods which have 3 ovules per branch were effective for it. Broad bean grown in a non heating greenhouse was harvested earlier and more than that in open culture.
