Effects of Pinching Time on Stock Plant Growth, Cutting Yield, and Quality in Kalanchoe blossfeldiana

This study was conducted to determine the optimum pinching time of stock plant and the optimum number of cutting harvest in Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Margrethe'. Stock plant was pinched at 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks after planting (WAP). Early pinching (4 WAP) decreased the number of stock plant branches and extended the period from pinching to cutting harvest compared to late pinching (10 WAP). Early pinching inhibited shoot growth but promoted root growth of the stock plant. Early pinching increased cutting yield (number of cuttings) and improved the cutting quality (weight and nutrition), rooting ability (speed), and after-cutting growth.
