[Horse feeding from today's point of view]

English. Serious investigations of physiological processes of growing and feeding the horses were happening only during the past 20-30 years. Now we have a new scientifically based understanding about physiological processes in the horses' intestines and digestion tract, their needs of energy for different field work, training and race load, as well as about needs of the nutrients - carbohydrates, proteins, fats, trace elements, vitamins and water. Horses that are fed with forage have bacteria that adapt only a little to hay digestion, and the other way around. However, a rapid conversion from hay feeding to concentrates can cause a change of balance of the volatile fatty acids. There is a precise balance in horses' intestine between the lactic acid developing bacteria, and bacteria that transforms the lactic acid into the volatile fatty acids. Easy soluble carbohydrates and starch getting into the caesium can cause intensive Lactobacillus action and the lactic acid development. The heavy metabolic disturbances can arise if there is a lack of using the lactic acid bacteria that can be transformed into the volatile fatty acids.

Tagad mums ir zinātniski pamatota jauna izpratne par zirga zarnu un gremošanas traktā norisošiem fizioloģiskajiem procesiem, enerģijas nepieciešamību dažādu darba, treniņu un sacīkšu slodzes izpildei, kā arī par barības vielu - ogļhidrātu, proteīna, tauku, minerālvielu, vitamīnu un ūdens vajadzību. Zirgam, kam pamatā izbaro uz spēkbarību bāzētas barības devas, baktērijas ir mazāk pielāgotas siena sagremošanai un otrādi. Savukārt, strauji pārejot no siena izēdināšanas uz koncentrātiem, mainīsies veidoto gaistošo taukskābju attiecības. Zirga resnajā zarnā ir precīza bilance starp pienskābi veidojošajām baktērijām un baktērijām, kas pienskābi pārvērš gaistošās taukskābēs. Viegli šķīstošo ogļhidrātu (cukuru) un cietes nonākšanu aklajā zarnā izraisa pastiprinātu Lactobacillus darbību un pienskābes veidošanos. Ja nepietiek pienskābi izmantojošo baktēriju, lai to pārvērstu gaistošās taukskābēs, rodas smagi vielmaiņas traucējumi.
