The globalised structural development of the national economy, which is based on modern production and service technologies, is sending ever new and stimulating signals and creating new research interests and problems in the spheres of economy and management, as well as sociology and the humanities. Analysis of the subjects chosen for doctoral dissertations in the Latvia University of Agriculture revealed that an increasingly large number of doctoral students prefer interdisciplinary subjects in macroeconomics. Most of the authors are doctoral students - new researchers - who naturally have diverse interests, but they share a common concern for the development of production and service factors and increase efficiency in their use. Three articles are devoted to factors pertaining to knowledge, education, intellect and competence; three other articles present the results of their research on more efficient use of specific factors in Latvia's regions and use of factors in regions with a distinctive character. Two articles have a sociological and humanities orientation. Another article focuses on logistics and several other articles discuss monitoring and management of production instruments, risks and processes. Each article has certain novelties - an original subject, modified methods, new insights, original assessments or new recommendations.
