Drying behaviour of the red alga, Porphyra ('Gamet'), from Ablan Burgos, Ilocos Norte, Northern Luzon, Philippines using convection oven

Drying behaviour was determined for the genus Porphyra under class Rhodophyceae at temperature levels of 40 deg C, 50 deg C and 60 deg C. Samples of Porphyra were gathered from the supralittoral zone of Burgos, Ilocos Norte, Nothern Luzon, Philippines. Drying curves were used to explain the relationship between moisture content, drying rate and time. Results showed that Porphyra had reduced moisture content from 38% to 17%. Drying time and moisture loss were highly significant, with R2 = 0.97 of samples dried at 40 deg C. The data were fitted to the exponential model. This model proved to have a good prediction capability in oven-dried Porphyra.
