The investigations on the effect of two methods of soil tillage on the yield and selected leaf area index (LAI) of spring barley and faba bean, were conducted in the years 2002-04 on good wheat soil. The methods of soil tillage were tested: traditional ploughing and non-ploughing variant. The crops were cultivated in four-field crop rotation: faba bean, winter wheat, spring barley. It was stated that on good wheat soils, under weather conditions characteristics for South Poland, traditional tillage in comparison to non-ploughing variant is more favourable for the spring barley yield and less for the faba bean productivity. Spring barley in the full heading and faba bean at the beginning of flowering on the plots with traditional treatment were characterised with high LAI values
