Characteristic of communes with nitrate vulnerable zones in Wielkopolska [Poland]

Nitrate vulnerable zones were estabilished based on examination of nitrogen content in surface and subsurface waters, where nitrogen concentration exceeds 50 mg N-NO3/cubic dm. For farms located within these zones special measures were designed in order to reduce nitrogen runoff. Farmers were obligated to comply with Good Farming Practice Code, to run field documentation and to lay out fertilizing scheme. Goal of the study was to estimate, against the background of the landscape and farm production, natural skills of nitrate vulnerable zones from Wielkopolska to generating and reducing of non-point pollution. Based on the valorization of the agricultural productive areas, elaborated by IUNG in Pulawy and the statistical data extracted from Regional Data Bank there was made analysis of natural conditions and state of agriculture in communes with nitrate vulnerable zones
