Weed infestation of winter wheat grown in organic and conventional farm in the area of Elk Lakeland [Poland]

The aim of this work was a comparison of the weeds number, species composition and weeds biomass, as well as estimation of winter wheat yielding, cultivated in alternative and in traditional farming system. In the organic farm winter wheat was grown in a regular 5-course rotation, while in the traditional farm irregular crop sequence was applied and winter rape - as forecrop, moreover were applied: NPK fertilizers, growth regulators, insecticides and used chemical weed control. More weeds per 1 square m and higher weeds biomass were found in organic winter wheat plantation, weed communities were characterized by much higher biodiversity, where 32 weed species were identified but only 6 in the conventional farm
