Content of nitrates in lettuce depending on the determination method

In the leaves of two lettuce cultivars grown with an increase fertilization dose, the content of nitrates was determined by colorimetric and potentiometric methods after extraction with 2 percent CH3COOH, 0.04M CuSO4 or 0.02M Al2(SO4)3. The studies indicated that the nitrate contents determined by the colorimetric method showed lower values in comparison with the results obtained by the potentiometric method. The application of different extraction solutions in the potentiometric method had an effect on the content of nitrates identified in lettuce. After extraction with 2 percent CH3COOH, a higher content of nitrates was found than after the extraction with 0.04M CuSO4 and 0.02M Al2(SO4)3
