Assessment of lead and cadmium contents in grain grown near roads in Podkarpacie region [Poland]

The research was conducted in 2002-04 in order to determine the effect of automobile on the contents of lead and cadmium in the grain of wheat, triticale and rye, grown near roads in the Podkarpacie region (Poland), as well as to assess the usability value of these grains. The grains of studied cereal crops were collected on 20 control points located along the national road and 4 within the limits of districts: Debica, Ropczyce-Sedziszow, Rzeszow and Przemysl. The contents of lead and cadmium were determined in grain using the ASA method. The findings proved the effect of the distance from the roadway as well as that of the traffic intensity on the concentration of lead and cadmium in the analysed grain crops
