Influence of harvest date on content and yield of protein of six maize hybrids

The field experiment has been carried out at Swadzim in 2002-04 to investigate the influence of harvest date on dry matter and protein yield as well as protein content in kernels. The highest dry matter yield for five hybrids and protein yield for four out of six hybrids tested has been observed two weeks after black layer stage of kernels in middle part of the ears. Earlier and later harvest dates caused yield losses, which amounted up to 9.8 dt/ha (13 percent of the highest yield) in December harvest date. Harvest dates did not influenced significantly on protein content in kernels, but its tendency to decline has been observed
