The effect of Ca2+ on the content of vitamin C, provitamin A and xanthophylls in hot pepper fruits

The effect of Ca2+ applied at seedling on the quality of hot pepper fruit of different cultivars was studied. It was found that Ca2+ stimulated fruit maturation. The mass of ripe fruit of hot pepper cv. Bronowicka Ostra and cv. Cyklon increased by about 17 percent and 27 percent, respectively, compared to the control. Fruits of cv. Tornado had a higher concentration of beta-carotene in 100 g of d.m. (30 percent) than control. The research indicated that Ca2+ makes it possible to obtain more fruits of higher quality
