This paper presents tha results of research of impact of forest ecosystems on soil erosion and runoff regime in the drainage basins in mountainous regions. The research were carried out in the experimental drainage basins and on runoff plots. The results of research showed that the degree of forest cover in hilly-mountainous drainage basins affects significantly the type and intensity of erosion processes, as well as sediment transport. The specific mean annual transport of total sediment transport in the Lonjinski Potok (70% of drainage basin under well-stocked forest) was 4.5 times lower than in the Dubosnicki Potok (48.5% under forest) and 3.5 times lower than in the Djurinovac Potok (39.5% under forest). It can be concluded that soil erodibility factor increased in dystic cambisols in spruce and fir plantations established on beech site. This resulted primarily from the reduced content of total humus in the first 10 cm of soil depth.
