The authors bring out the characteristics of certain periods in the development of crop insurance in Serbia. The investigations concerns both the legislation of insurance in general and legal acts, regulations and conditions of crop insurance, with respect to different phases (capitalism, socialism, period of transition) of the socio-economic development in Serbia, beginning from the end of 19th century. It would be analyzed the relation between the state and insurance, the insurance underwriting companies, kind of risks in insurance and crops which are the matter of insurance, Obligated or voluntary insurance would be analyzed too, as well as other relevant factors that had crucial influence on the development of crop insurance in the respective periods.
