The effect of single and combined inoculation on the emergence and early growth of birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus)

The research consisted of investigating the effect of rhizobia, azotobacter and actinomycetes, both individually and combined, on the emergence and growth of the plants of Lotus corniculatus, as well as on the interaction between microorganisms. Rhizobia were grown in YM medium according to Vincent, azotobacter in broth medium according to Fjodorov, and actinomycetes in a medium according to Krasiljnikov. The number of cells of rhizobia was 10**8/ml, azotobacter 10**6/ml and the number of spores of actinomycetes was 10**6/ml. The effect of inoculation on the emergence and growth of the plants was determined during the first 10 days. The seed of Lotus corniculatus was inoculated with 5 ml of inoculum. Sterilized water was added into the seed of the control plant. The variants were the following: 1) Rhizobium loti; 2) Azotobacter chroococcum; 3) Actinomyces; 4) Rhizobium loti + Azotobacter chroococcum; 5) Rhizobium loti + Actinomyces sp.; 6) Actinomyces sp. + Azotobacter chroococcum; 7) Rhizobium loti + Actinomyces sp. + Azotobacter chroococcum; 8) Control. Inhibition occurred between rhizobia and actinomycetes. Between actinomycetes and azotobacter, in some cases stimulation occurred and in some cases there was no effect. The emergence of seed was 70-90% and the best result was achieved in the variant with rhizobia as well as in the variant with the combination all three species of microorganisms. Considering the growth of the plants, the best result was also achieved when rhizobia was applied and when the combination all three species of microorganisms was applied.
