New grapevine cultivars, the result of cross breeding (Chardonnay x Kevedinka) at the Institute for Fruit Growing and Viticulture at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, Serbia, have been examined in the experimental field in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia. The research covers the period of eleven yielding years (1995-2005) of the cultivars grafted on rootstocks Teleki 50, Kober 5 BB and SO4. The results indicated that there is a significant effect of the rootstock and cultivar on all examined features. Based on the results of this research it has been concluded that Sila is a high quality cultivar. Grapevine cultivar also affect grape quality. Higher sugar content was found in T 50 and lower in SO4, which is in reverse proportion to the yield. More exuberant vines as well as the highest yield were found in cultivars grown on rootstocks K 5BB and SO4. Vegetative potential was higher in Sila although the cultivar showed a better quality of grapes and higher yield. In conclusion, it is recommended to grow new cultvars on rootstocks SO4 or alternatively K 5BB and choose cultivar Sila.
