Selection indices for estimation of breeding value of pigs based on their fertility

The aim of this paper was construction of selection indices (SI) for breeding value estimation of pigs regarded on their fertility. Parameters which was necessary for construction of SI were calculated based on fertility realized in the first, first two and first three parities. Databases used fir this purpose include 926, 1598, and 2115 litter records of Swedish Landrace sows from one pig farm in the Republic of Serbia, respectively. On he bases of parameters ((co)variances) calculated for each of mentioned databases, which included realized fertility in different parieties, ten selection indices was constructed for different combinations of traits included in aggregate genotypes for each case. Aggregate genotype of most accurate selection index (r(IH)=0.502) include number of born alive piglets (NBA), corrected number of weaned piglets (CNW) and corrected litter weight on weaning (CLWW). For construction of shown index we used genetic and phenotypic (co)variances calculated based on fertility realized in the first two parities.
