In Serbia, Simmental breed of cattle is dual purpose breed with emphasis on the milk traits. According to this, proper selection of young sires is of the most important significance for success of selection programmes. Data of 371 Simmental bulls tested at the AI Center in Velika Plana were analysed in order to estimate year and month of calving, herd of origin and group in test effect as well as error components on birth weight, test-on weight, test-off weight, pretest ADG, test ADG and lifetime ADG. Year and month of calving were very significant source of variation for almost all analysed growth traits. Herd of origin was very significant source of variation for pretest growth traits, while for growth traits in test effect was at different level of significance. Group in test was also important source of variation for analysed growth traits.
