The maize growing practices have been studied at the Maize Research Institute Zemun Polje, Belgrade - Zemun, over 50 years and the contribution of science to the development of maize growing practice in Serbia is of a special interest. The following elements of maize growing technology will be analyzed in the present study: crop rotation, fertilizing, the role of microorganisms, tillage, sowing and weed control. Obtained results combined in such as present a concept of a contemporary system of maize growing under conditions of our country.
