A long term experience of both domestic and foreign breeding and seed production of all vegetable crops at the modern stage is summarized. The main issues and problems of vegetable crops general breeding, including its origin and development, main tasks and modern breeding tendencies, its biological and genetic basics, plants genofunds: creation, study and usage; analytical breeding methods, interspecific and remote hybridization; experimental mutagenesis and etc. are considered. An extensive material on breeding of some more important vegetable crops for Russia is presented. Great attention is paid to Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae family crops, breedings of varieties and hybrids of table root crops, bulbous and cabbage crops. The matters of legume culture breeding, leaf crops, spice and perennial vegetable crops are also considered. A number of matters relating to variety and sowing vegetable crop seed qualities (organization, ways and schemes of primary seed growing, seed growing sowings approbation, document completion on seeds and other matters of seed growing) are outlined. The monograph is intended for a wide range of agricultural specialists, scientific workers, post graduates and students.
