The aim of investigation was to determine influence of sowing rate on green matter yield and components of alfalfa yield. Investigation was conducted under agro-ecological conditions of East Serbia, on smonitza soil. Results from the second and third year of utilization were showed. In thick stand average number of stem was 704 per square meter and green matter yield was 72.7 t/ha. Average number of stem per square meter was 245 and green matter yield was 35.7 t/ha in broadcast sowing. Higher plants (90.3 cm) were obtained in dense crop, while in broadcast sowing, lower plants (85.1 cm) have detected. The plant density has had low influence on content of dry matter in alfalfa green matter (24.8% in thick stand and 24.3 in broadcast sowing).
