[Results of studying provoking properties concerning Brucella ovis antibodies of strain 19 vaccine when applying the conjunctival inroduction method]

A possibility of applying a vaccine from strain 19 at the conjunctival method of administration as a provoking agent to detect rams with latent ovine infectious epididymitis (OIE) form in one of farms in the Kurgan Region OIE-safe and brucellosis-free. The strain 19 vaccine was compared to the strain Rev-1 vaccine widely used for specific prophylaxis of OIE. All rams were preinvestigated in CFT and CCFT with standard antigen B. ovis and by the clinical methods. They helped to detect 14 % of sick animals, the rest of them were divided into 3 groups. The animals of group 1 were immunized with the strain 19 vaccine, group 2 – with strain Rev-1 vaccine, group 3 was control. The results of the serological study at days 14 and 21 showed that after administration of the strain 19 vaccine 22.6 and 28.3% of responsive rams were detected, after the Rev-1 vaccine – 9.8% and 21.5%, respectively. In addition to the control by the provoking method using the strain 19 vaccine at days 14 and 21 after immunization 18.4 and 20.0% of latently OIE-infection cows were detected, the Rev-1 strain vaccine – 5.6 and 13.2%, respectively. The provoking properties of the strain 19 were higher than those of strain Rev-1. The correlation immunological analysis showed that new positively responded rams appeared. The epizootic danger of brucella-carrying rams provoked with the strain 19 was confirmed in 50% cases by a bacteriological investigation using bioassay on guinea pigs. It is concluded that in its provoking properties the strain 19 vaccine is 1.5-2 times higher than that of the stain Rev-1. The method of provoking antibodies is advisable to detect sick animals and animals with latent disease form.
