Review of the achievements at the rapeseed breeding in Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad (Serbia) is given in this paper. Rapeseed oil is becoming more competitive in the oil market. The main goals of rapeseed breeding are creation of 00 type cultivars and hybrids with the genetic potential for high yield and seed oil content, increase of disease resistance, as well as increased resistance to low temperatures. Increase in yield could be achieved by creation of cultivars resistant to prevalent pathogens and tolerant to stress. Value of the cultivar is primarily determined by seed and oil yield. The task of breeders is to create new cultivars and hybrids with high and stable yield and the increased nutritive value of seed with the use of conventional and methods of biotechnology.
