New Zealand spinach is a little known plant in Serbia but is possible to grow well in its conditions. This is a typically grown as an annual plant. It is not related to true spinach, but the leaves taste similar and some think better than spinach. Leaves of New Zealand spinach are very rich in vitamins B, C, and minerals such as Ca, P, Mg, K and Fe. New Zealand spinach is occasionally cultivated in gardens for its edible leaves, it is an spinach substitute for hot and dry weather conditions. New Zealand spinach can be propagated from seeds and from seedlings. Seeds can be sown in late spring (April-May) and transplanted after last spring frost in a distance 50-60 cm betweeen row and in row 20-30 cm. Harvesting can occur continuously 60 days after sowing to the end of September. Yield of New Zealand spinach can be obtained 30-40 tons per hectare.
