The most common linguistic mistakes in papers
2002
Majdic, V., Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Veterinary Fac.
Considering that linguistic culture is part of general culture and that paying attention to the quality of the language used is important for the preservation of linguistic and national identity, it is very commendable that the editors of the Slovenian Veterinary Research have been making every effort to ensure not only a high professional and scientific level of the papers but also their linguistic correctness and appropriateness. Since any intentional efforts to acquaint people with the characteristics and rules of the Slovene language usually end after primary school and most secondary schools in their Slovene classes concentrate on teaching almost exclusively literature at the expense of the language, while there is no systematic teaching of the mother tongue or terminology at the university level, texts written by highly educated and linguistically conscientious experts - through no fault of their own - as a rule need linguistic corrections and improvements. Errors and shortcomings appear in all linguistic fields and concern spelling, grammar and style.
